Blessings and Battles by A Common Goal CD review

We all have our demons and issues we need to deal with as well as our family and everyday life, A Common Goal uses these experiences to write and record amazing music, and do not shy away from showing that their faith in Christ has helped them through some tough times.

I always have a hard time reviewing music especially when I know the band members personally, but this review seems to be able to write itself, A Common Goal has hit it out of the park with this release, but there is one flaw in the CD and it’s a pet peeve of mine which I will get to later.

Mike May’s vocals and ACG’s music always, and I mean always get compared to Mike Ness and Social D. Lucky for us ACG has put out an amazing album, something Social D hasn’t done in quite some time. The lyrics hit home as Mike and the guys play music that has meaning to them and gets your mind thinking without forcing their beliefs down your throat.

Listen I enjoy songs about beer, fighting, and doing stupid shit as much as the next guy, but I applaud ACG for playing music that has substance and meaning , this hits home with track 4 “Hope” as it intro’s with events happening in the news today and track 7 “problems” which describes problems many of us battle. Track 9 “Blue Collar” describes what many of us deal with, working your ass off, fighting to stay afloat and ahead of the bills, and standing strong to make it through the day.

I will guarantee you that there is at least one song on this CD that everyone can relate to and that will make you sit back and wonder if ACG was sitting in your head while writing the song, and if you say no I’m calling bullshit! Now if ACG was sitting in my head they would have known it drives me nuts when there is something hidden at the end of a song and my CD player goes to dead air for 3 minutes while waiting for it, it’s almost as bad as waiting for track 96 to show up on a CD with 12 songs and watching the other 84 spots skip over.

Do yourself a favor, Pick up the new CD, See them Live, the music is awesome you will not regret this purchase!!!!!
